Geological studies of Krivenkovskoe field

Mountain Neveb composed of Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous deposits, which began to be studied further in the early 20th century. One of the first researchers of the geology of the region in the 20th century was the future director of the Geological Committee of Russia - VSEGEI (1914-1917.) well known geologist K.I. Bogdanovich, who considered that the deposits belong to the upper Callovian deposits or Lower Oxfordian (border deposits Middle and Upper Jurassic), based on data collected in 1906 under.

In the thirties of the last century, these structures have been further investigated and a number of prominent geologists and paleontologists as V.F. Pchelintcev, S.A. Yakovlev, I.E. Khudyaev and A.S. Moiseev concluded Tithonian age of limestone strata. The well-known geologist and future academician O.S. Vyalov in 1930 and 1931 made his own work in the West Caucasus and its result also confirmed the point of view about the considered age of the rocks. In 1934, he published and highlighted the results of these deposits represented by marl and limestone as a suite of Neveb, referring the entire suite to the Upper Jurassic – Berriasian periods. At the XX and XXI centuries in the Caucasus, there were work on a new generation of geological maps at a scale of 1: 200 000. Distribution territory became part of the retinue of the sheet L-37-XXXIV (National ..., 2002)  where the authors of the drafters of the sheet again entered her into use for geological mapping, placing its outputs on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus. Neveb Formation were dated as Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous (Oxford-Berriasian) based on the findings of fauna in the area of ​​Big Pseushho. Stratotype area is located in the second zone at its exit, near the Neveb as shown in Figure 1. The suite is composed of the bottom of interbedded mudstone and siltstone with olistostrome horizon, above are the reef arrays and clastic limestone and the top of it is represented by alternation and pelitomorphic clastic limestone with marl, rarely - mudstone. The total capacity of the formation is more than 1000 m. Ammonites Arisphinctes plicatilis Sow., Aspidoceras ex gr. perarmatum Sow. (lower part), Paraulacosphinctes densiplicatus Waag., Aulacostephanus lorioli Ziet. (middle), Delphinella subhaperi Ret., Pseudosublanites ponticus Ret., Malbosiceras malbosi Pict. (upper part), were found in the formation, which allow to correlate with stratigraphic interval upper Upper Jurassic - Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian Oxford). In 2012 and 2013. Senior researcher of the VSEGEI Vuks V.Y. in co-operation with Tatyanchenko T.G. conducted a detailed study, and testing rocks for studying the micropaleontological section of Neveb formation in quarry Krivenkovskoe to clarify its age and supplement its paleontological characteristics. These works were carried out in the search of mines in the Western Caucasus, where it would be possible to trace the gradual transition Jurassic deposits in the Cretaceous formations. At the moment in the international scientific community, there is a geological program on the establishment of a global stratotypes tiered borders - Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) - «golden nails." This program aims to study the longline boundaries where a gradual change in the tier of one rock to tier of overlying rocks clearly seen. Border of the Tithonian and Berriasian tiers (the boundary of the Jurassic and Cretaceous) has not yet been chosen, because suitable cut could not be found. In addition, it is necessary in Russia to carry out similar work for the establishment of Russian "Golden Nail" - Russian regional stratotypes of the longline borders. Mountain Neveb today is one of the contenders for the installation of the "Golden Nail" according to the international program, the research we conducted aimed at collecting evidence and substantiation of the application for review to the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP).

From the material produced in our quarry were built and reconstructed objects of industrial and civil construction, such as: the Tuapse refinery, M4 Don highway,Dzshubga-Sochi highway, Tuapse-Maykop highway, pipeline Hadizhensk-Tuapse, Shaumyan pass.

Also, bank protection facilities: a railway line Tuapse-Adler. Spray and shore protection: Spray strengthening Geoport Novorossiysk, yacht club "Tornado", bank stabilization beach «Costa Rusa», hotel «Lavicon» p.Nebug and Olympic Park in the city of Sochi.
